What Parents Should Know About Kids Class
We are happy you are interested in getting your child involved in a fitness class. The FAC kids class is taught by Jennifer Lolli-Hall, one of the certified group fitness instructors who is experienced in working with children in fitness and has also instructed in children's yoga classes and swimming classes. The free class offered at the FAC is designed for children ages 4 and up (over 10 may feel "too old" unless assisting a young sibling.) The program is designed to offer these children who are older than "toddler" age to engage in games and group fitness. This type of class will help them achieve stronger motor skills, coordination, and confidence and will also assist them in sports. Studies show the importance of learning rhythm skills at a young age, so we will occasionally do "drum" rhythms and dances with the children to promote their learning experience.
We hope you find this program to be a tremendous value to your FAC membership. It is important for children to realize the advantages to keeping our bodies healthy and a great opportunity for them to understand why their parents come to the gym and create good lifestyle habits. To keep the program safe and effective, please be advised of the following recommendations:
Parents must bring the child to the gym and be sure the child wishes to attend the class. Please also take the children to the bathroom prior to class. Children are welcome to bring a water bottle.
The class is not to be used as a "childcare" alternative. If your child can not use the bathroom unassisted or is not accustomed to following a class without a parent, this is not the class for your child. If your child is not able/willing to follow instructions-even if they meet the age recommendations, please plan to stay in the room with them or keep them in the playroom.
If your child tries to leave the gym or will not follow in the games/exercises we will ask that they go to the play room. (this is only if the child is not willing/interested in trying). Please understand that this is for the safety of the other children and the interest of the older children who are trying to do the activities. As much as I love to work with toddlers, this environment is not the best for 2-3 age group. The class is simply too long and there are not enough adults in the room to keep this age range stimulated and safe. We offer fun and interactive toys and activities in the play room for the younger children. Once again, you are free to stay and do the class with the younger children.
Please sign up for the class at the playroom so I can plan accordingly for the crowd. If you forget to sign up prior to coming, please call ahead to confirm the class is not too full. We often use props and equipment determined by expected attendance.
